The Multipurpose Centre ‘Abogados de Atocha’ in Torrejón de Ardoz has been, during the days of yesterday 18 and today, 19 April, the venue of the I International Meeting of Cities and Christmas. Thus, Torrejón de Ardoz, 1st European Capital of Christmas is once again a European reference for Christmas. Entities and cities from different European countries such as Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Belgium, Romania, Portugal, Poland and Ukraine have participated in the event. The Mayor of Torrejón de Ardoz took part in this working meeting together with the Councillor for Equality and Festivities, Ma Eugenia Gil Blázquez, the Councillor for Tourism, Miriam Gutiérrez, the Councillor for Welfare, Education and Immigration, Rubén Martínez, and representatives of cities and entities from the European continent that have joined the European Union’s Solidaritown project. This conference was an opportunity for cities to share their best practices in relation to the organisation of Christmas projects and solidarity. Including topics such as Christmas markets, advertising campaigns, social events, digitalisation and sustainability.

This event was attended by Enrique Espinel, head of operations of the company CIVITATIS (leading company in online distribution of guided tours in Spanish in the main tourist destinations in the world), Rafael González, representative of the company Productores de Sonrisas (expert in family entertainment) and Alberto Lorente, representative of the company CREA 360 SL. Finally, the day was brought to a close by Salvador Garriga, former Member of the European Parliament and a subsequent visit to Parque Europa in Torrejón.

Christmas Cities Network, organiser of the European Capital and Christmas City Awards, develops the European project Cerv Solidaritown, a network of cities that promotes European cultural diversity and the value of solidarity, especially through the different Christmas traditions in Europe and with a special focus on solidarity in the face of current conflicts.

The creation and promotion of this Project will have an impact on the various sectors, such as economic, cultural or social that will be activated, impacting positively on the life of the communities and inhabitants of the cities.

The Cities Network will facilitate and promote various activities to establish collaborative alliances between cities, companies, foundations and individuals, as spaces to promote common practices and projects and the exchange of experiences. The Christmas Cities Network promotes several volunteer actions.

Alejandro Navarro recalled that ‘Torrejón de Ardoz has established itself as the Christmas tourist destination par excellence in Spain with 1 million visitors to its Magical Christmas and has joined this exciting European project that promotes European cultural diversity and the value of solidarity, especially through the different Christmas traditions’.

The Mayor of Torrejon has participated in this working meeting with representatives of cities and entities of the European continent that have joined the Solidaritown project of the European Union.
